Nick Shaw - 13th June 2016
Last weekend Sporty Kidz were involved in running the Goldsworth Park Rangers FC tournament, an annual event which had almost 2,000 kids enjoying two days of football at Wishbone Way Rec.
Sporty Kidz ran the Under 5 and Under 6 age groups, with the U5s taking part in fun football drills, matches, and a penalty shoot out. The children were then presented medals by England Legend Sir Geoff Hurst.
Sir Geoff Hurst handing out medals
Sir Geoff Hurst, there as a brand ambassador for FA partners McDonald’s, said: "It's great to see boys and girls up and down the country enjoying their football and getting involved in the game we all love. Hopefully the great work being done by McDonald's and The FA will help produce the England stars of tomorrow."
Under 5s in action
The U6s were involved in a fun football tournament, with 2 GPR FC teams, trained by Sporty Kidz coaches and 4 other teams, Lyne Bobcats, Lyne Meerkats, Send Spitfires and Mayford Athletic. Our GPR Red team were undefeated. On the Sunday, the U6s played again, and faced two teams from Woking Cougars and two teams from Aldershot, with our GPR White team recording the highest score in the competition of 7-0 (in 8 minutes!)
Sporty Kidz GPR FC getting their medals
Sporty Kidz director & coach, Ellie Beagley, said: “I’m so proud of all our U5s & U6s who took part in the event, and getting an England Legend in Sir Geoff Hurst to award their medals was fantastic. Despite the rain, he was happy to take photos, sign shirts and autographs all day.
This was the first ever tournament that the Under 6s had played in, and our Red team were undefeated! After finishing on Saturday at 6pm, a space became available on the Sunday at 9am to play again, I was frantically texting parents during the England game to see if anyone wanted to play again the following morning, and to my surprise, we fielded 2 teams again! This just proved the level of enthusiasm and dedication already by our budding young football stars.
I'd like to also thank all the parents for their help, especially Sam, Leng and Matt who helped run our teams over the weekend. There were some wonderful memories made to cherish forever, from the children's first win, their first goal and their first football trophy!
I'm excited to announce that I have now booked us 3 friendlies to play over the next 3 Saturdays, to prepare the children for their move up to playing in a league next season."
